The long version.

This is the detail behind the paper CV. I’ve kept it because jobs are rarely just a title, and the smaller parts often explain how someone arrived where they are.

IT Manager CurrentCASS Worldwide · UttoxeterOct 2025 — Present

I lead day-to-day IT operations and digital improvement across the business, supporting colleagues in office and field environments and turning operational needs into reliable, practical systems.

My work covers Microsoft 365 and Entra administration, user and device lifecycle management, identity and access controls, licensing, mailboxes, collaboration tools, operational databases and supplier coordination. I build internal tools and automated workflows, investigate endpoint, cloud and network issues, analyse incidents and technical evidence, and translate complex findings into clear decisions and support.

HSEQ Support ManagerCASS Worldwide · BirminghamFeb 2023 — Oct 2025

I supported health, safety, environmental and quality performance across field operations, combining practical site knowledge with clear reporting, evidence-led decisions and continuous improvement.

I coordinated audits covering work practices, equipment, PPE, vehicles and completed network builds, then turned findings into proportionate actions and guidance. I worked with teams, leaders, customers and suppliers including Openreach and Telent, and supported incident analysis, corrective actions, stakeholder communication and health and safety committee work.

Field Support ManagerCASS Worldwide · BirminghamFeb 2022 — Feb 2023

I supported my team in the field to ensure that PONs were delivered with top quality to the customer in a timely manner. This included jumping in and helping out in a range of situations, including test rodding and roping, cabling, splicing, testing of completed networks, quality checking and re-surveying of jobs should the need arise. I was also our department’s unofficial IT guy, and regularly fixed technological issues, both in the office and in the field.

I liaised with customers, including Openreach and Telent, to come up with solutions to unexpected problems on the network.

I am familiar with the use of ORION and SOLO. I also met with customers regularly in order to address concerns and to update them on the progress of our builds. I am also well-versed in the use of DepotNet and iAuditor.

I regularly carried out audits, both from a Health and Safety perspective and a Maintenance perspective. This included checking correct procedure, equipment, tools, PPE and vehicles. I then produced detailed reports that could be sent to the relevant departments, with recommendations based on my findings. I was our department’s Health and Safety representative and attended regular meetings of the Health and Safety committee to raise concerns and help others come up with solutions to their H&S-related issues.

N23 Internal AuditorCASS Worldwide · BirminghamOct 2021 — Feb 2022

I was in charge of auditing the finished builds once the PONs had been completed. I liaised with the customer to gain feedback on the builds and also met with the gangs that built the PONs in order to advise on any quality issues.

I also audited the vehicles within the company using the in-house auditing mobile application.

Fibre Optic SplicerCASS Worldwide · BirminghamApr 2021 — Oct 2021

I worked in the field using Fusion Splicers to efficiently connect new-build PONs. I also tested the quality of the splicing using combinations of OTH and Toggle Test applications.

Operations ManagerEnvironmental Pest Control · BirminghamApr 2018 — Apr 2021

I was responsible for the development and implementation of company processes and procedures, particularly with regard to changes in legislation and codes of best practice that are constantly changing. An example of this would be GDPR compliance.

As part of this role I researched the provision of new IT systems, specifically with regard to job allocation software and invoicing solutions. After researching, I successfully implemented a software solution along with new hardware, and provided training in its use to all employees.

The role also required me to be the point of contact for contracted customers 24/7 all year round. I ensured that all service calls were allocated and satisfactorily completed within specified time limits.

I held responsibility for vehicles, plant and machinery maintenance and also managed stock control and the provision of equipment and materials.

I achieved our company’s retention of CEPA-certified EN16636 (European Accreditation) status through preparation and management of the audit process.

Senior Pest Control TechnicianEnvironmental Pest Control · BirminghamJan 2016 — Apr 2018

As part of this role, I provided additional support to technicians with regard to more complex tasks such as insect identification.

I also provided initial surveys and quotations for new business opportunities. This required me to produce risk assessments, method statements, COSHH assessments and environmental impact assessments as required.

I developed and presented learning material for customers, particularly in the hotel and hospitality sector, to recognise the early signs of pest infestations. In addition, I attended industry meetings and events and cascaded developments and news to other staff members.

During this period I helped the business win the Sutton Coldfield Trade Business of the Year 2016/2017 award.

Pest Control OperativeEnvironmental Pest Control · BirminghamFeb 2014 — Jan 2016

In this role, I provided technical inspections to both domestic and commercial premises in order to eradicate and prevent pest control issues. I provided comprehensive written reports and management plans to utilise integrated pest management techniques.

As the role often involved entering people’s homes as well as schools, nursing homes and places where vulnerable people were, I obtained an enhanced DBS Certificate.

As a technician, part of my job entailed making sure that all customers were completely satisfied with the work provided and all aspects of the treatments were fully explained.

I also provided wildlife control services to protect livestock and reduce the economic impact in the agricultural sector. During this period I obtained both firearms and shotgun certificates as part of that work. I learned land management techniques and used these to reduce harbourage and enable environmental adaptations that encouraged the use of non-toxic control.

During winter periods I helped to provide gritting and snow clearances using a variety of 4×4 vehicles, quad bikes, snow ploughs, snow blowers and other machinery, as this was an additional service provided by the company. I also undertook a driving course in off-road techniques and defensive driving.

Crew TrainerWright Restaurants Ltd (McDonald’s) · BirminghamAug 2011 — Jan 2015

At McDonald’s, I worked both preparing and serving food in a fast-paced kitchen environment. I also worked closely with management to handle training.

This included developing training schedules for individuals and ensuring that new employees were trained to a high standard, as well as ongoing training delivered to current employees.

I ensured food preparation areas were of a clean standard in line with current health and safety advice.

I also worked outdoors when required to take deliveries of both perishable and non-perishable foodstuffs. This often included redirection of traffic to allow the HGV to park safely.

Working outdoors also required me to maintain a safe environment for both employees and members of the public, gritting car parks, picking up litter and reporting any potential health and safety hazards.

Stock ControllerRicher Sounds · LichfieldMar 2009 — Sep 2011

I was in charge of stock control for a busy audiovisual store. My main responsibility was the control of all incoming and outgoing stock within the store databases. I also took deliveries, checked them for accuracy and stored the items in the correct bays.

My stocks were kept tidy and free of any trip hazards. I often assisted in cleaning the store when required.

It was also a customer-facing role. I helped customers handle heavy loads and assisted in loading vehicles when required.

Away from work

A few things I enjoy.

This is a personal site, after all. I’m interested in flight, water, mountains, history, worldbuilding and the sort of journeys that leave a good story behind.

The Way of the Law

A fallen constable, a corrupt city and a dark mage thought gone—book one of a planned ten-book world whose cultures, geography and histories have grown for years.

Beyond the desk
I like seeing what is over the next hill.

I’ve been lucky enough to fly planes, sail boats, swim in mountain lakes and travel from the Canadian Rockies to the Scottish Highlands and the Great Hungarian Plain. I enjoy drone photography, abandoned places, SCUBA, books and history—and I’m still very much learning as I go.

There is always more to see.
